Where I'm Walking
Lands End to John O'Groats is the more traditional direction to
walk but I walked the other way. Why? Because I left in
September, if I was walking North I would have arrived in North Scotland
towards the end of November, which would have been just a bit too cold for
me.
With the help of the internet and 53 OS Explorer maps I
planned a route that took me from the North-East tip of Great
Britain to the South-West. On the way I passed through Inverness,
Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Darlington,
Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Oxford, Salisbury and Newquay
before finally arriving at Lands End.
The route I planned took 1168 miles to walk over 57 days. I had seven rest days so that gave me 50 days to walk with an average distance each day of 23.3 miles. The first week I did a bit less than that but the rest of the walk I more than made up for it!
